Broadway in Everett, MA is a 2-lane road plagued by congestion, hampering local business and making bus service on this important transit corridor slow and unreliable. Master’s student (now graduate) Adewale (‘Wale’) Ogunleke studied it to identify capacity bottlenecks and to recommend traffic management changes to increase capacity without adding travel lanes.
This report was done before Everett implemented a southbound bus lane in the a.m. peak. That bus lane has vastly reduced bus delay and improved traffic in the a.m. peak. However, the problems identified and the improvements recommended in this report remain valid, and could be especially helpful for improving traffic flow during other periods of the day.
